Clifton Beach
Cape Town is a stunningly beautiful city, dominated by huge
coastal mountains and pearly white beaches. I caught the "Mr. and
Mrs. Clifton Beach contest" while I was there, a good excuse to
appreciate hard bodies.
Shabeen (unlicensed tavern) at Cape Flats
I saw another side of the "New South Africa" on a tour of the
black and colored townships outside of Cape Town. This is the
entrance to a shabeen, an unlicensed tavern offering home brew beer.
Proprietor and customer of Shabeen
The women to the right is the proprietor. She makes food as well
for the customers, and prepares the home brew which is passed around
from man to man to drink communally. I tried some - it wasn't bad.
Penguins at the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve
Cape Town is near the Cape of Good Hope, the southern tip of
Africa. I was able to stop and visit with the penguin colony there.
