Lioness at Masai Mara
As soon as I arrived in Nairobi, I hooked up with a safari
company. The first game reserve we visited on the 7 day safari was
the Masai Mara. I was really taken aback at the density of wildlife.
We got really close to this pride of lions who didn't seem to take
much notice of us.
Hippos at Masai Mara
The hippos are a bit more tempermental, but they basically stayed
in the river. I did do some mental calculations about how fast they
could run to shore versus how fast I could run back to the van.
Cheetah at Masai Mara
We came across some cheetahs stalking their prey. Though we saw a
few chases, none were successful in capturing their prey.
Two Masai boys and me
Me and two Masai boys near one of the Masai encampments. Notice
their wraps look suspiciously like Scottish tartans. That's because
they are tartans, introduced by the British when Kenya was
British East Africa. Before that the Masai wore skins.
Giraffe at Lake Nakuru
A giraffe at the second game park we visited, Lake Nakuru. The
lake is populated with tremendous flocks of pink flamingoes.
